1. anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown: “the mysteries of finding out what’s in the mystery gear.” Not to be confused with wondering whether your mystery gear will be worth the money you spent.
2. any affair, thing, or box that presents features or qualities so obscure as to arouse curiosity or speculation: “What’s in the box is an absolute mystery to everyone.”
3. a novel, short story, play, or sales event whose plot or theme involves a crime or valuable piece of gear that remains puzzlingly unsettled until the package is received by the purchaser: “a mystery by DailyClimber.”
4. obscure, puzzling, or mysterious feature: “the mystery of which high-quality piece or pieces of gear will be shipped to you.”
5. any truth that is unknowable except by divine revelation: “the gods of gear whorishness have told me my box includes a brand-name cam (and it really might!)”
6. (in the climbing religion) a. a sacramental rite, often involving burning old ropes and webbing.
b. a period of time in which the purchaser of mystery gear is left to wonder what is in his or her box; this time period is generally of surprising shortness.
